This site teaches blackjack because the game has real math in it. Playing it for money is not a sound financial idea, and no page here pretends otherwise.

The house always has the edge

Perfect basic strategy is the best any non-counter can do, and the casino still keeps about half a percent of everything you bet. Players who guess give up several percent more. No betting pattern changes that number, and neither does a hot streak. A betting system that claims otherwise moves the same losses around. Skill in blackjack means losing as little as possible.

If you play for money

Decide what a session may cost before you sit down, and treat that amount as the price of a night out. Do not chase losses. The math that would win it back is the same math that took it. Set a time limit as well as a money limit. Never play with money you need, and never borrow to play. If you are gambling to change how you feel, stop. A win is variance, not proof that a system works. A loss is variance plus the edge.

Warning signs worth taking seriously

Watch for gambling more than you planned, hiding play from people close to you, chasing losses, gambling with rent or borrowed money, feeling restless or irritable when you are not playing, and gambling to get away from a problem. If any of that sounds familiar, talk to someone now, before it feels necessary.

The National Council on Problem Gambling is at ncpg.org, and Gamblers Anonymous (gamblersanonymous.org) runs meetings everywhere. In the UK, GamCare is at gamcare.org.uk or 0808 8020 133. Most jurisdictions run a self-exclusion program that bans you from casinos at your own request. Casino staff enforce the ban.
